Ang Mo's mentality of Singapore

When we had the IT Man, Nigel came over last week from London, (not his first time) and we brought him to Thai Lunch, we were chatting about :-

The people’s mentality of Singapore. Especially Bermuda.

They had all sort of questions posed to Esther and Nigel.
Posed to nigel were something like :-
- can u see the building straight away. After all, there’s only one tall building or not.
- how good is the building. Is it old dented and shaky sort of thingy?
-
to esther: -
- How’s the electricity at night in the building. Do we need candles?? How often it breaks down?
-

from the others;_

- singapore is which part of china?

- those malays in singapore is from MALAYSIA is it.

The look a like Ranger

Last night I was trying to explain to ThiRak about the police/guards I saw. They were standing just right at the entrance of the end of the linkway in the open, at the entrance of SUNTEC, wearing all brown with a BROWN hat, hat that is not A CAP but a hat.

And Holding a LONG rifle, really long and looks pretty heavy.
Yeah, they looked like rangers, like those in the forest rangers, looking for hunters.

That was my first time seeing those in singapore actually.
And I was wanting to take my phone out to snap a few pictures of the LONG RIFLE they were holding at like 90degrees all the time under the hot SUNny day, and I thought better not, because surrounding me were other policemen, dressed in normal navy uniform that we are used to seeing.
So I didn’t snap.

And so ThirakAK was trying to guess the rifle they were holding but I can’t reconise it anyhow.

This morning I was trying to go a little bit nearer to these “rangers” STILL holding on 90degree to their rifle. Yeah it was a long heavy looking rifle.
Must be really tiring. and HOT

I feel so guarded every where

The moment you arrived at City Hall this morning, there were many troops of guards/police/security whatever you called them everywhere.
Inside
Outside the train station.

At the escalator going to Raffles City and

at every entrance of Suntec, well, at least the entrances that i passes through had guards stationed even at the convention halls food court.

Well, i dun get to see so MANY guards on duty on normal days, especially at every distance.

F1 & the worries at home...

Its over finally.

Our singapore office underwriting were undergoing some furthur training to our knowledge from very nice 2 ladies from New York.
Very helpful and cheery ladies and compassionate at least.

+ last evening the EARTHQUAKE shook the building we were in and at first i thought was me feeling giddy but no, it SHOOK the building, the indonesia quake.
And so we headed home at 630pm.

Then this morning, we FELT THE ANOTHER QUAKE from nearby of yesterdays' QUAKE in Indonesia. It was milder than yesterday but the quake was not a good one in Indonesia..
STILL we thought the better of running down... tsk tsk

So since after the crash human traffic in town area recently because of the F1, we had a day to work from home right before the F1 started, on Friday.

Which was thankfully not the PEAK period so we didn’t have much to work from home any how, at least for me, the assistant.

I brought home a few days before the F1 race a stack of betting slips from Singapore Pool and just before we proceed to the counter to place our bets, thiRak AK & I were thinking in the room, randomly picking something to bet on, just to make our watching the F1 a more interesting and anxious one.

So he picked

1. HAMILTON the winner

2. McLaren-Mercedes as the team winner.

2 bets

And

We hit the bull’s eye. Very interestingly, just that the odds was terribly little, still, it was interesting to watch when you had a bet on hand.
So we managed just to recover our cost.

Daddy was having a hard time these past weeks with his new found sickness that came rather suddenly. So bad he didn’t attend work for at least 2 weeks till this week, and he came home every other noon time as he was still in bad pain.

So I was quite worried too , his age is catching up, and we tried the western and sinseh, still his pain is bothering him so much, at times, I believe he might have felt so frustrated.

I hoped he recovered very quickly soon, we would pray.

Spore F1 is causing a Massive Jam

This morning the linkway was especially packed with working adults, especially the men with ties and long sleeves shirt.

Especially more than usual, then I realised, ka, some probably didn’t drive in to work because of the placement of the concrete barriers in creation of the e-lane of the F1,nah, that was yesterday.

Today, access will be restricted via the e-lane through Raffles Boulevard for motorists who display the LTA car decals only. With the decals, you can’t even drive in.

So FROM where I am seated now, at high floor in the cooling room, the JAM along the beach road, the road along the concourse building and the road along the furniture mall building is horrendous. Horrifying long stretched of cars right beneath the road above golden mile. Hemm. And even on my right of my view, the shaw centre road is also very jammed.

Whoever was trying to reach the centre for work is definitely already extremely late.
If I had a camera, it be joyous to snap the massive JAM!

Trying to call Mcdonalds Delivery is not easy..

We have prepared for a Mcdonald Supper last night after our Tepanyaki dinner at North point, right after our foot reflexology with the parents.

So at 1030pm, after our farming and crime watch, we made a call to Mcdonalds…
Long time to take our orders, else it was hung up.
So I called again,. Finally after a while….
This not very friendly taking-order-lady,…..

M: hi ms serena
S: can I have 2 fish fillet…
M: send to where
S: yishun
M: postal code pls.
S: XXXXXX
M: THIS WILL TAKE 1 and the half hour AH..
S: huh, ONE AND THE HALF HOUR…
( i reckon they having thousands of orders, else sending from JB maybe)

M: YAH!
S: ok then I don’t want!
M: “”HANG UP!””

Thi-Rak AK & I walked to Northpoint 24 hours Mcdonalds and grabbed our family supper and back at home to makan by 11pm. In all less than half an hour.
By 12 we were ready to sleep.

Then we saw the news about Thaksin’s 60th birthday, we were all excited and wanted to send our wishes to him!

And we did!

Marina Barrage

After years in Marina, it was only today that i went to Marina Barrage that since opened in Nov 08.

After the churchy, the aunties with darling Ak and parents went to take a look at the long talked about Marina Barrage and
the 7th storey Restaurant that had shifted from 7th Storey hotel.

this the overview of the Marina Barrage

The Marina Barrage is a dam in Singapore built across the

Marina Channel, separating the sea,

thus having a reservior.

It provides flood control from the sea and our water supply

This picture taken from the web of the opening of the dam.

the capture of MS

when i read the news this morning on MS arrest ONE MONTH AGO in MALAYSIA, my first reaction was

1. why one month ago now then report
2. would singapore claim credit and do the thumbs up for their security mistake or what? not much information about his arrest wor..

then i read the comments made by singaporeans that is soo funny...

Comments made by singaporeans

1. now the singapore government will be expecting credits to be given to them, for un doing a grave mistake which should not have happened in the 1st place. he was re arrested in malaysia anyway, so the direct credit might be to the malaysian police rather than the SPF, but we all know that this credit-grabbing government will insist and highlight the fact that it was some 'joint operation on some cooperation' to get the recognition they always need.

2. **** *** **** u better apologise bcos u said he is still in singapore and now how he appeared in jb? u better explain

3. How come mas selamat is able to sneak through our very tight border security to johor baru? Why are we keep thinking all along that mas selamat is still in singapore? Now that mas is caught, what is WKS going to do next?

4. if they send mat to singapore, i am worried we may lose him again. our next generation police cannot capture mat but malaysian third class with low pay can do the impossible.

5. maybe we need to hire malaysian police minister and police to lower cost and have better efficiency.

6. trying to claim credit for a screw up will only backfire. passing photos to malaysians and asking them to capture him is a procedure. but again, singaporeans lah.. always like to claim credit..

7. that grave and stupid mistake of letting mas selamat escape should never have happened in the 1st place, his recapture is something which they should have done a long time ago. now they still want to mouth about them being deserving of credits and rewards? they can go to hell.

8. I still don't trust the Gov. whether he is really capture, as no photos to prove and if it is already been capture 1 month ago, why our custom check point still waste so many other times in checking scaning for all vehicles while leaving Singapore and it seen to have some hidden stories behind the whole incident, and such a tight checking at custom check point how on earth can he be in Malaysia, do you think after all the effort at the check point was wasting all our time.

Circle Line costs more?

This is a super duber good article on our singaporeans average thoughts. i doubt it will serve any purpose or any impact on the high transport costs that is going to be inflicted on us and i doubt "they" will listen to our woes, because basically, nobody does listen to us, having said that, its good once a while for us to have our say anyhow!

Cheers to this article! Well SAID!

-------------------------------------
Extracted from ASiaoNe
Circle Line costs more? Don't pass the buck to us

I REFER to last Thursday's report, 'Train fares likely to match NEL's'. It was mentioned that fares for the upcoming Circle Line will be higher because it is completely underground and fully automated with driverless trains.

I can understand why fares are higher if the entire Circle Line is underground. But can SMRT explain why fully automated and driverless trains cost more? This may be due to the initial high cost of installing the automated system, but is this not a cost-saving measure in the long run?

Let us assume that SMRT is justified in passing on the initial high cost to passengers. But then, will it give rebates to passengers when the system starts bringing in cost savings? I doubt so.

If automation costs so much, why not employ the traditional system of drivers, which is now in place on the North-South and East-West lines? Besides, this will create more job opportunities when we are going through this economic downturn.

Transport is an integral part of everyday life and so the average citizen is deeply concerned about transport costs.

The Government encourages us to take public transport to reduce the number of cars on the road. Hence, should the Land Transport Authority and public transport operators not work together to come up with measures to ease the burden of higher transport costs?

Link Way Closed

THE sky is awfully dark.

Since this morning, it was very dark already and when this morning, decision was to walk underground after the train arrived at City Hall,

To everyone’s dismay, the dumb Underground link to SUNTEC was shut!
It looks scary with the roller shutter down, no access to the link way ….

So alternative, was to go up the escalator, walked above the tunnel in the open not-fresh air to the convention hall,

With

With the darken sky.

As I was walking, I got madden and MADDEN!

No signs to show the closure of the tunnel LINK!

I got worst MADDEN when I wasn’t given a reason why we couldn’t use the tunnel link to suntec!

I was lagi furious when I see the dark SKY threatening to rain and WAT if it DID RAIN while I was about to use the open-NOT-fresh air journey to suntec???

WHAT IF IT REALLY RAIN & I HAD NO UMBRELLA AND STUCK AT CITYHALL!

And I got really mad! mad with the people who closed the LINKWAY without informing days before.

Why
Because the normal route I USED was put to a HALT,
i couldn't use
and I was being forced to change direction with no choice given. ...

Then I was reminded of applying it to life change.
WHY I face no choices route with anger?

Gaga!

then i start to chuck at myself! Cool down serena! Getting mad for nothing!
si bay funny myself

Dumber me for a hazy day

To those allergic to the dust and haze, here’s cheers to Singapore.
I didn’t realize the hazy hazy Singapore until this morning.
When I woke up and my throat was weak and dry and painful,
I thought it was weird.

Again.

Worst, I think and thunk, I didn’t have any harmful for the throat last evening, so
Nothing.
Just we had sat at 156 for a while with no breeze, that might help the worsen.

Gaga
To make matters worst,

Stupidly, I walked outdoor today above the tunnel to workplace.
Then after finished the morning marathon, I reached the office then I realized.
That I am breathing more haze!

Dumb

Singapore F1

Everyone is talking about it still isn't it, after the amazing long race.
AMAZING RACE!

It's a 5.067 kilometres long with 23 turns total of 61 laps.

how did i enjoyed it?

we had gathered into the roomy of mine with my parents and watched the race together.

We supported
Massa!

it was just too unfortunate. Till the next year, i supposed!

since the race has been over, the road closure remains closed for whatever reason till yesterday!

it was empty viewing the top of the view in the office with lots of police dressed in lime green jackets stationed at certain road junctions waving the cars out of the compound the whole day yesterday!

since it was so, the different news we had all over had the road closed till this Friday. TO minimise my walking today, ( i had went to tcm to wrap the ankle), i took a bus from Dhoby Ghaut to Suntec. The Driver in the bus went "" don't ask me don't ask me, this morning first round, the ROAD STILL CLOSED,. don't ask me....."" so i thought i better alight the next possible stop i could, which was the convention center. Not that bad, but still quite a walk.
Better than from the train station 25mins walk!

then i arrived and realised, the road were opened!

Yipee!

Contradiction or what with our law?

Oh yes, I was wondering last night about the One-eye dragon story.
What took me there, my mind and my brains about the defense he took that he drank liquor quite a bit and wasn't in the sober mind when he pulled that trigger?
Yes he drank quite a bit, more than a mug of beer definitely.

(was it like that?)

But the court ruled out that defense. Doctor claimed that the amount alcohol content in a normal body could still be in a state of consciousness and able to justify his actions.

That was more than a mug of beer

so after a mug of beer, we can’t drive because apparently medically, they said, that, we are not in the state of mind to justify our actions?

Am I seeing a contradiction there?

It just went through my mind last night..

hemmm

what can we say?

Bulls!
